Trial red-tape promise
May 23, 2016
A FEDERAL coalition election
commitment to better coordinate
clinical trials is welcome news
for patients, researchers and
innovative medicine companies,
says pharmaceutical industry peak
body Medicines Australia (MA).
With around 600-700 clinical
trials nationally conducted each
year in partnership with hospitals,
universities and other research
institutions, Australia’s ability to
retain and attract more clinical
trials has been hindered by the
myriad of regulations which can
change from state to state as well
as hospital to hospital, MA has said.
Even ethics committee
requirements can vary from
location to location, creating a
significant roadblock, said MA,
welcoming Health Minister Sussan
Ley’s commitment to a more
harmonised approach.
