Twenty-two additional health conditions added to Queensland pilot.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland Branch President Chris Owen announced that several community pharmacies have started providing enhanced healthcare services as part of the Queensland Community Scope of Practice pilot.
This initiative allows community pharmacists, who have completed an additional year of university study and practical training, to offer expanded services for 22 different conditions.
These conditions range from school sores and shingles to mild psoriasis, wound management, swimmer’s ear, travel health, and hypertension.
The announcement was made in Cairns in the presence of Queensland Premier Steven Miles, Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman MP, and Pharmacy Guild of Australia President Trent Twomey.
During the event, Owen expressed his gratitude towards the Queensland Government for their support of the Pilot, describing it as a “game changer” for patients in the region.
Owen emphasised that the Pilot aims to complement, not replace, existing primary healthcare services, providing Queensland residents with more options to access necessary healthcare.
He highlighted that patient consultations will be conducted in specially designed consultation rooms, ensuring privacy and professionalism.
