PHARMACEUTICAL industry peak body Medicines Australia (MA) has analysed the Final Budget Outcome papers released yesterday, finding that efforts of MA members have kept expenditure low on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The Final Budget Outcome for 2016-17 shows that the Federal Government spent $13.379b on the PBS, MA said.
"However, the final outcome is a gross figure that does not subtract the significant rebates provided by our members through pricing and supply agreements with government," MA's chief executive Milton Catelin said.
Catelin added that these rebates were in addition to the recent MA-government agreement to reduce pricing for on-patent medicines by a total of $1.8b over five years.
