The US Food and Drug
Administration has allowed the
prescribing of OxyContin for
children aged 11 to 16.
The move followed studies
commissioned by the FDA looking
at use of the drug in children with
pain caused by cancer, trauma or
major surgery.
The approval is for the use of
OxyContin for children in the age
range who need “daily, roundthe-
clock, long-term” pain relief
for which there is no alternative,
in those who have already been
