SPENDING by pharma companies promoting their medicines in the USA rose by more than 60% over the last two decades according to a study reported by Scimex.
Marketing of drugs, disease awareness campaigns, health services and laboratory testing increased to $29.9 billion in 2016 from $17.7 billion in 1997.
The data showed that while most of the advertising was angled at health professionals, direct-to-consumer advertising grew to $9.6 billion, representing about one third of the investment.
