TAKING dietary supplements during breast cancer treatment could do more harm than good, Australian Medication Safety Services, Principal Consultant, Dr Chris Alderman, warns.
Citing data published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Alderman warned the use of antioxidant supplements including vitamins A, C and E, both before and during treatment were associated with an increased hazard of recurrence, while the consumption of iron and vitamin B12 before and during chemotherapy was "significantly associated with poorer disease-free survival".
