JAPANESE pharmaceutical firm Takeda has agreed to pay about $84 billion for Irish drugmaker Shire.
The deal, which is still subject to due diligence, is the largest ever foreign acquisition by a Japanese company, with the preliminary agreement reached after several previous approaches were rebuffed.
