The Victorian Community Pharmacy Program has been expanded to include impetigo treatment for individuals over 24 months, and continuing hormonal depot injection and hormonal ring contraceptives.
Announced today by the Victorian Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas, the additional services build on existing services for uncomplicated UTIs, shingles, plaque psoriasis and travel health.
All additional service consultations are to be funded by the Victorian Government.
PSA Victorian President, Atinuke Abraham, welcomed this expansion, which empowers community pharmacists to deliver more comprehensive and accessible care.
“We look forward to additional common health conditions and well-being services being introduced to the Victorian Community Pharmacist Program as soon as possible,” she said.
Meanwhile the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch, has committed $1.5 million in scholarships in the wake the announcement to support the development of a full scope pharmacist workforce in Victoria.
Eligible members and sponsored employees who undertake Monash University’s Graduate Certificate of Pharmacist Prescribing will receive up to $5,000 reimbursement after completing the course.
“By supporting pharmacists to undertake training to become pharmacist prescribers, we are helping to build a more accessible and sustainable healthcare system for Victorians,” said Guild Victoria Branch President, George Tambassis.
