Pain petition political push
July 20, 2012
A NEW “10,000 Faces of Pain”
campaign next week will urge
Australians to sign a petition which
asks federal parliament to initiate a
discussion to raise awareness of the
impact of chronic pain in Australia.
A website created for the promo
at www.nationalpainweek.org.au
also asks MPs to “investigate the
merit of a mass education
campaign” to help Australians
understand chronic pain and the
need to destigmatise the condition.
As well as petitions to the Senate
and House of Representatives,
sufferers are asked to upload a
photo to an online gallery, as well
as make an appointment to see
their local MP and “tell him or her
about your pain and the difficulties
you have due to the impact of pain”.
National Pain Week (22-28 Jul) is
sponsored by Pfizer, Voltaren,
Janssen, Feldenkrais Method,
Scenar Health and the Australian
Medical Acupuncture College.
