NATIONAL Pharmacies says it’s
seen a big jump in the sales of
nicotine replacement products after
the government’s recently
announced 25% tax hike on
tobacco products.
The group’s general manager of
Professional Services, Neale Burton,
said sales of nicotine patches and
gum increased more than 30% in
the wake of the new law which took
effect from the end of April.
“I think you can safely say the
substantial increase in the cost of
tobacco has convinced thousands
of Australians to try to give up
smoking,” Burton said.
He said the figures going forward
indicated that some of those people
who decided to give up had slipped
back into old habits “but the
majority are still in there, working
towards a healthier future”.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 10 Jun 10 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 10 Jun 10
