MediSecure joins NPDR

THE MediSecure prescription
exchange has signed a commercial
agreement with the National
E-Health Transition Authority
(NEHTA) to integrate with the
National Prescribing and Dispense
repository (NPDR).
The NPDR is a key repository in
the national eHealth infrastructure
and will store medications
information including prescription
and dispensing data for consenting
Personally Controlled e-Health
Record (PCEHR) registered patients.
“MediSecure has identified the
current obstacles to collection
of a patients’ medicines
information at each point of care
as an impediment to better health
outcomes,” said MediSecure ceo
Phillip Shepherd.
“MediSecure is able to handle the
data collection issue technically and
through the existing MediSecure
Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions
presence on the majority of
medical practitioner’s desktops,
MediSecure can securely encrypt
and transfer patient’s medications
information along with the crucial
patient consent”, he added.
Medisecure has had the
technology and infrastructure to
handle Australian Standards based
secure medicines messaged since
2009, and the NPDR has been
designed to populate the medicines
information into the consumer’s
PCEHR.
“The next step is to have full
engagement from all clinical
and dispense software vendors
so that over time prescriptions
and dispensing information for
consenting consumers can be
captured and placed in the NPDR
and the consumer’s PCEHR.
“A comprehensive medicines
record will lead to better clinical
decision making at the point of care
and improved consumer health
outcomes,” Shepherd said.
