AUSTRALIANS made six million
trips to emergency departments in
public hospitals throughout
2009-10, according to the latest
figures released by the Australian
Institute of Health and Welfare .
100% of all resuscitation patients
who presented to Emergency
Departmentss received treatment
immediately, whilst 70% were seen
“on time” for their triage category.
According to the head of the
AIHW’s Hospitals and
Performance Group, Jenny
Hargreaves, 2009-10 ED figures
also found that for 50% of presenting
ED patients, treatment began within
23 minutes of arrival, and within
115 minutes for 90% of people.
The report also found a 2.4%
year-on-year increase in the
number of people receiving
elective surgery in public hospitals.
