A RETROSPECTIVE mortality study has found that suicide rates for health care professionals (HCP)with ready access to prescription medications was higher than for those in health professions without such access or in non-HCP occupations.
Female HCP rates of suicide were greater than for non-health related occupations, while male rates for medical practitioners were roughly equal to non-HCPs, but male nurses and midwives had higher rates.
