A new Australian study has been hailed as showing that Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract is comparable to traditional blood pressure drugs.
The research, published last month in Frontiers of Nutrition, found the product reduced blood pressure in hypertensive patients to a similar degree to first-line standard antihypertensives.
However the study also warned that increasing dietary garlic did not have the same benefits.
Researchers said the patient group who took the Kyolic product also experienced positive changes in pulse wave velocity, arterial stiffness, inflammatory markets and gut microbiota.
A total of 49 participants with uncontrolled hypertension completed a double-blind randomised placebo-controlled 12 week trial, investigating the effect of daily intake of aged garlic extract or placebo on a range of measures.
