RETINAL thickness may serve as a biomarker for worsening diabetes, according to a study of 606 type 1 diabetes who have suffered with the condition for 50 years or more. The study, reported at the American Diabetes Association’s 71st Scientific Sessions, looked at retinal thickness using optical coherence tomography, and found that patients with increased central retinal thickness were more likely to have diabetic nephropathy seperate of glycemic control.
