YOU'VE heard of Big Pharma - now the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is promoting the concept of what could be called Small-to-Medium Pharma, launching an action plan to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in developing novel drugs.
"In the pharmaceutical sector SMEs are a motor of innovation and play a major role in the development of new medicines," the EMA said.
The new action plan covers four key areas including engagement with universities and investors; training and education; supporting new drug development through maximising SME use of regulatory tools; and participating in EU initiatives to support SMEs.
