IN A world where anger management is the name of the game, researchers have unveiled a quirky strategy: tossing out your troubles, literally.
Forget counting to 10 or taking deep breaths, according to a new study in Nature, the key to neutralising anger lies in the physical disposal of a piece of paper containing your written frustrations.
Participants in the study were tasked with penning their thoughts on social problems.
They then received a handwritten, insulting comment from the study's researchers to spike their tempers.
But fear not, salvation came in the form of a trash can or shredder.
Half of the participants bid adieu to their anger by throwing their notes in the bin or putting them through a shredder, while the other half clung to them like a lifeline.
The result?
Those who bid farewell to their frustrations saw their anger levels plummet, while the clingy crew remained stuck in the anger zone.
With applications ranging from boardroom blowouts to preschool tantrums, this method offers a cost-effective solution to anger management.
And who knows?
Maybe one day, we'll have an app for that, making anger disposal as easy as swiping left on your troubles.
So next time you're seething with rage, remember: when in doubt, toss it out!
