DEMENTIA Australia just took dining to a whole new level with its latest workshop, 'Dine with Ted (VR)'.
Picture this - care workers donning virtual reality headsets, not to play a online game, but to navigate the dining experience of someone living with dementia.
"It's like playing a game where you level up by mastering the art of mealtime," joked Prof Tanya Buchanan, Dementia Australia's CEO.
"Except here, the final boss is a peaceful, happy dining experience," she added.
'Dine with Ted (VR)' isn't just about tech wizardry; it's a crash course in making mealtime a joy, not a battle.
Care workers get to walk or rather, dine in the shoes of those they care for, spotting the subtle triggers that might turn mashed potatoes into a emotional battlefield.
Launched yesterday at Dementia Australia's webinar, the three-hour immersive workshop promises to make mealtime the highlight of the day for carers and patients.
Rachel Mead from Regis Aged Care summed it up, "it's eye-opening, literally".
"And I didn't even spill my virtual soup."
The workshop is suitable for staff providing support to people living with dementia in various care settings, including residential and home care.
