RESEARCH out of NZ and UK
Universities has clarified the role
of amylin in the genesis of diabetes
type one and two.
Published in The Journal of the
Federation of American Societies
for Experimental Biology, the
study found that when there was
overproduction of human amylin
(hA), diabetes could be the result,
as hA destroyed insulin as it was
produced by the pancreas.
The amount of hA generated and
aggregated determined the type of
diabetes caused.
The authors said that these data
would inform development of
therapeutics for diabetes.
