THE Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission has given
its approval for Aspen
Pharmaceuticals to takeover
Sigma’s pharmaceutical division.
The approval did however come
with the stipulation that Aspen sell
its LPV brand, as well as Sigma’s
Sone and Solone brands
containing prednisone and
prednisolone respectively, in order
to address competition concerns.
Sigma also agreed to keep its
iron supplement Ferrosig, to avoid
an Aspen monopoly.
“Without the proposed
divestitures, Aspen would become
the sole supplier in these
pharmaceutical markets,” the
