17,000 adverse events

APPROXIMATELY 17,000 reports
of adverse events resulting from
medicines were received by the
Therapeutic Goods Administration
(TGA) for 2015.
Most (54%) were reported by
sponsors, 15% came from State
and Territory Health Departments
(reports of adverse events following
immunisation) while 14% were
from hospitals and hospital
pharmacists and 6% were reported
by community pharmacists.
The remainder were from GPs
(4%), consumers (4%) and 3% other
sources, the TGA said.
MEANWHILE the TGA report on
medical device-related adverse
events showed a fall in 2015 to
3,359 reports from 3,697 in 2014.
As in previous years, the vast
majority of reports (84%) were
from sponsors themselves and
8% were from allied health
professionals.
