AUSTRALIA will become one of the "world's leading centres" for the innovative CAR-T cancer therapy, with the Federal Government yesterday committing $80m in funding to Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
CAR-T therapy, approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Dec, works by removing some of a patient's immune system cells before re-engineering them in a lab and then putting them back in the body to attack cancer.
