The US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) is working
with The Drug Supply Chain
Security Act, signed into law last
November, to create a system that
will help identify and trace certain
prescription drugs as they are
distributed within the US.
The system will provide a history
of the transactions involving each
product, the ultimate goal being to
identify each individual prescription
drug package to enable rapid
verification of the legitimacy of the
product.
If a counterfeit or other harmful
drug is discovered, the FDA can
readily notify patients, health care
professionals, hospitals and others
