PHARMACISTS have been
identified by the Community
Preventive Services Task Force in
the US in their 2013 Annual Report
to Congress as an important part
of a Team-Based Care approach to
cardiovascular disease (CVD).
The report highlighted the role
of the pharmacist in medication
management, especially
patient compliance which in
the frequently symptomless
conditions of hypertension and
hypercholesterolaemia is critical to
long term outcomes.
According to the report, 49% of
Americans have at least one of the
three most important modifiable
risk factors: uncontrolled high
blood pressure, uncontrolled high
cholesterol and tobacco use.
