THE World Health Organization
has issued new guidelines on the
treatment of patients with HIV,
including offering antiretroviral
therapy (ART) earlier in the course
of the disease.
At the International AIDS Society
2013 conference the WHO said
that treating HIV earlier can
substantially reduce the risks of
transmission to others, as well as
keeping patients healthy longer.
The revised guidelines estimate
that 25.9 million people will now
