SCIENTISTS in the US have
discovered new so-called “taste
receptors” in the lungs which could
lead to new treatments for asthma.
The receptors in lung smooth
muscle do not send signals to the
brain, but do respond protectively
when exposed to bitter substances.
“They all opened the airway
more profoundly than any known
drug that we have for the treatment
of asthma or chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease,” said research
leader Stephen Liggett fromt he
