You need to eat well too
December 4, 2012
A PILL is not the be all and end all
of health, according to a new study
which found that patients with
heart disease who take
hypertension and cholesterol drugs
can cut their mortality risk from the
disease by up to 35% simply by
eating right.
It may come as no surprise that a
healthy diet can prolong life by
staving off lifestyle diseases, but
the study of nearly 32,000 patients
from 40 countries worldwide,
found that over 4.5 years, heart
disease patients cut their risk of
another heart attack by 14%, stroke
by 19% and congestive heart failure
by 28% with the help of a healthy
diet.
Researchers defined a healthy
diet as one with lots of fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, nuts and
fish, and only a little red meat and
eggs.
