New research undertaken by the
Social Policy Research Centre at the
University of New South Wales and
released for World Arthritis Day
(tomorrow 12 October) highlights
the enormous but often silent
disability burden of arthritis and
highlights the need to recognise
that arthritis can be a disability as
well as a medical condition.
“The research explores people’s
experiences of living with arthritis
and preliminary results highlight
the frustration that many people
with arthritis, especially those with
autoimmune forms, feel when
people dismiss their condition
because they think it is just due to
old age,” said Consumer Director of
Arthritis Australia, Wendy Favorito.
The next stage of the research
involves a survey of sufferers and
carers - you can access the survey
