VICTORIA has made Australian
medico-legal history by becoming
the first state to pass legislation
allowing the manufacture, supply
and access to safe and high quality
medicinal cannabis for people in
exceptional circumstances.
Children with severe epilepsy will
be given first access to medicinal
cannabis from early 2017, following
the passing of the Access to
Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2015
on Tuesday, a state government
release said.
Announcing the government’s
small-scale strictly controlled
cannabis cultivation trial, Health
Minister Jill Hennessy said, “It’s
absolutely heartbreaking to see
families having to choose between
breaking the law and watching their
children suffer - and now ... they
won’t have to.”
An Office of Medicinal Cannabis is
to be established by the Victorian
government to oversee the
manufacture of the drug and all
clinical aspects of the framework. The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 14 Apr 16 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 14 Apr 16
