THE prospect of a future without effective antibiotics has again been raised on news of the death of an American woman from an untreatable infection with a gram-negative bacterium resistant to all classes of antibiotics.
The article was published in the MJA with president of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Professor Cheryl Jones saying this would "profoundly affect all areas of health care, and society".
