Antimicrobial resistance development continues to dominate the medical literature and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians has issued what has been described by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare as “a cogent summary of the issue of antibiotic resistance” . Under the title Antibiotic resistance: are we all doomed? the paper sets out a series of specific steps that need to be taken to manage the complex and critical problem.
