THE Tasmanian Coroner has released a report on the death of a 64-year-old man who died in 2014 as a result of multiple organ failure due to paracetamol toxicity.
The patient suffered from a range of conditions including a 2013 diagnosis of dementia, but evidence cited by the Coroner found he had been taking a regular daily dosage of paracetamol for over 12 years before his death.
Coroner Ron Chandler noted that diagnosis of chronic paracetamol intoxication was often difficult, with symptoms "insidious in onset, often nonspecific, and easily confused with alternative diagnoses".
