THE NSW Department of Health
has issued a measles alert after four
people were reported to have been
in the community while infectious
in the past two weeks.
Two cases were travellers who
spent time in hostels in Cairns and
Magnetic Island, Queensland, while
the others are children who most
likely acquired measles in India.
NSW Health director of
communicable diseases, Vicky
Sheppeard, said people who had
not received two doses of measles
vaccine should be alert to the
symptoms of the highly contagious
condition in the coming weeks.
These include fever, sore eyes
and a cough followed three or four
days later by a red, blotchy rash
spreading from the head and neck
to the rest of the body.
Measles can have serious
complications particularly in kids. The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 08 Apr 16 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 08 Apr 16
