ASTHMA inhalers can stunt the
growth of children, new research
has indicated.
While the study revealed that up
to half a centimetre of growth could
be lost by children who regularly
used corticosteroid inhalers,
respiratory experts have said that
on balance, the loss is a small
price to pay for protection against
potentially lethal asthma attacks.
Published in the Cochrane
Library, the paper looked at the
annual average growth rate in 25
trials involving 8,741 children and
teenagers to 18 years of age and
a second group of 22 trials where
lower dose corticosteroids were
