The humble pig whipworm
has surprised researchers at
the University of Melbourne’s
Faculty of Veterinary Science by
putting itself forward as a lead in
the search for new treatments
for inflammatory bowel disease,
rheumatoid arthritis, multiple
sclerosis, diabetes and autism.
Lead researcher, Dr Aaron Jex,
Faculty of Veterinary Science,
said it was known that humans
infected with the harmless ‘pig
whipworm’ (pictured) could have
significantly reduced symptoms
linked to autoimmune diseases.
“And now we have the genetic
sequence of the worm, it opens
the door to future human drug
designs and treatment.”

returned to the library by the now
91 year old culprit.
The Telegraph reported that the
£4,500 overdue fine was waived
for returning the publication,

Primitive Society’.

that it could in all possibility be a
parrot, as a woman who became
worried when she heard someone
calling “Daddy” repeatedly near a
school and began looking for the
child instead found a large green
parrot in a tree, Associated Press
reported.
An animal control officer caught
the parrot and it was reunited
with its owner, without ceasing to
say “Daddy”, “hello” and “what!”,
the publication reported.
