Australia-China drug pact

The University of South Australia
has announced a new collaboration
with leading Chinese drugmaker
Yabao Pharmaceutical Co Inc which
will see the creation of a new Joint
Drug Discovery Laboratory.
Under the terms of the
agreement the University will
identify drug candidates for new
cancer treatments in a co-funded
facility led by research academic
Professor Shudong Wang.
Yabao will have the exclusive
rights to develop and
commercialise the drug candidates
in China, while the University of
South Australia will retain rights in
all other markets.
Vice chancellor, David Lloyd, said
the University of South Australia
was thrilled to have forged such
a strong collaboration in China,
while Professor Wang said the
financial resources resulting
from the agreement “will help to
rapidly advance our drug discovery
towards clinical development, a
goal we all share”.
Founded in 1978, Yabao
Pharmaceuticals is listed on the
Shanghai Stock Exchange and has
more than 6,000 employees.
